What is your favorite part of the World Race?
Being a racer, you may have been asked this once or a million times. If you are like me, you probably have asked yourself this question. Not because there is any crowning glory to the first place answer, but simply because knowing who you are now, is helpful to see how you have changed later.
The criteria I use to answer this question hinges on, what parts of the race offer the greatest reminder of why I felt the Lord calling me to serve around the world. Now, there are plenty of daily reminders, from the hug of an orphan who has been given a chance at success through education, or the smile of a toddler from incest rape , who looks forward to arms that will hold him instead of neglect him. The reminders come in the wet willies from a 14 year old boy who now has a big brother to bother instead of paint thinner to sniff and in the strength in a person’s eyes when they realize that they are worth more than just the title dumpster diver. All of these are so precious and cherished, but what if all of these were stripped away? What is the one reminder that gets you through to the next week?
For me it is the amazing fellowship with Christians from all over the world, praising our God in different languages and styles, but in one spirit. I thrive on the opportunity to visit new churches and see how the Holy Spirit is working in their midst. Every Sunday I am overwhelmed by the fact that, even though we may only worship together once in this lifetime, we will share an eternity with our Lord. We are a community, a family. Let us treat each other like the brothers and sisters we are in Christ!
"Praise the Lord all nations!
Extol him, all peoples!
For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
PRAISE THE LORD!"
Psalm 117
