It’s hard to believe that September is only five short months away. Only five months until I trade my comforts of home for a tent and sleeping bag. Only five months until I board a flight to Thailand and jump into the unknown. Despite the fact that I’m leaving home, the thought is strangely comforting because I know God is ahead of me leading the way, but also behind me protecting me.
When I first signed up for this journey with God, I don’t think it fully hit me all that I’m leaving behind. But this week it did, and it hasn’t been easy. Its difficult to think about leaving my friends and family, who by the way have been crazy supportive during this process!!
Each day it’s a a little harder, but I know that God will use this phase of my life to draw me closer to Him and His lost people across the nations. A couple of verses that have been encouraging to me lately are Ephesians 5:1-2- “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragment aroma.” James 1:27 is my new favorite verse! It reads “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
Every time I get nervous about leaving home, I remember these verses because they remind me that I am called to this mission to love on people throughout he nations.
I’m so excited to be leaving in September, but I constantly have to remind myself that I need to be fully present while I’m still at home. To soak up every moment of this life in the states, to love on the people here cause this is where I am now.
Please be praying for my squadmates and I as we have our first fundraising deadline coming up in May! Also be praying that our hearts be continually prepared for this journey ahead of us. Be praying that we actively live life here at home and that we use every opportunity at home to share the Gospel and love on people, just like we will on our mission trip.
Five months until go time!
