So, I’m reading this book called “Kingdom Journeys” written by Seth Barnes (the founder of The World Race… and I highly recommend reading it! ) and He conveys an important concept in a way that I have failed to be able to express in words.
The point is:
The end (finishing, completely, achieving) is not the destination. Finishing high school with honors, getting that job promotion, buying your dream house, having kids, finishing your bucket list… the list never ends. But what happens after you seal the deal on your white picket fenced 3 story cottage? And when your GPA is as high as it can be? Its like reading this amazing book ( Just did this last night. Read “The Fault in our Stars” in two days) and you want to read so fast because you want to know the end that when you get to the end you’re like, “WHAT NOOO! THAT WAS TOO FAST. I WANT TO REREAD IT AGAIN!” You regret pushing through the material so fast because you may have skipped over details and failed to really savor “the journey”.
The journey it takes to get to the end (of whatever your facing) is what we are all actually longing for. The adventure. The lessons we learn through our hardships.
The Journey IS the destination.
The time that I have between now and the day I launch overseas is also a season of “journey”. I don’t want to waste this time just twiddling my thumbs waiting for “the end” to begin in another season. I don’t know what truths, concepts, wisdom, knowledge, and glory God wants to reveal to me but I believe that (just as Seth Barnes does) taking a physical journey will result in a spiritual journey. And so, I will not wait until The World Race to begin my Kingdom Journey with God. My Kingdom Journey starts now in this mundane season of wait.
So you’re probably still wondering why the heck I tacked on ” $111FOR1 ” at the end of my title. And if you weren’t wondering, you are now cause I brought it up :p Keep reading, I assure you its worth it.
As you may be aware (I hope you are if you’ve been following my blogs!) that I need to raise approximately $16,250 total for my own “journey” to discover the greatness of God and share what I have found to be true of Him with the world. And in this current season, this last month before I enter the third world, I am not sure spiritually where God wants me to grow. And so I want to take a step out into a physical journey that will invoke spiritual growth.
$111FOR1 is a NEW fundraising challenge I have felt God impressing upon my heart (and verbally comfirmed through my mom who has been begging me to go hiking with her perhaps every morning since I stepped foot onto Kentucky soil).
Logistics: For each individual gift of the amount of $111.00 I will hike 1 mile with my 75 liter pack on my back.
Why? : This is an incentive for YOU as the donor to give, believing along side me that God is going to sustain me through something physically trying but cultivate change inside of me. I want YOU to see and experience God too! And I believe that He is going to make himself known in and through each and every one of you. I just want to be the vessel and want to grow my heart fonder of My Father.
So, would you consider praying over this opportunity? $111.00 is the price of all those fast food meals you buy in a month. $111.00 is the amount you have stashed in change. $111.00 you could put feet to faith with and ask God to show up in your own life and make himself REAL to you. $111.00 that does not parish because its being invested into the owner of all the money in the world and the creator of all things living.
Donate $111.00 and I will take a picture of each mile I walk with my 75 liter pack. Wouldn’t you like to see me walk 90 miles in the mountains of Kentucky drooling, sweating and crawling on my knees? haha.
Cost breakdown – for me to reach my total amount of $16,250 I have about $9,000 dollars left to raise. If approximate 82 people, which equals 82 miles, (holy burning rubber! … and calories) gives $111.00 I will be fully funded.
Think about it. Take a leap. Take your own Kingdom Journey right in your own home.
(Challenge lasts from August 1 – September 1)
