As we were going and visiting all of the women in the community that I mentioned in the previous blog, we were able to witness something pretty horrifying in the community. It was the Disco. Here the Disco is not a fun upbeat style of dance, instead it is worse than any club I have ever seen. The Disco is a place where the children in the community come on Friday and Saturday nights to come and ‘dance’. The way in which these children ‘dance’ is purely sexual. I have never seen anyone dance in this way, especially children. Children who were just learning to walk were here, and I saw 2 five year olds shaking and gyerating on top of each other.
My heart broke.
What made matters worse was the people looking on. Men would stand 20 feet away and look at this Disco as if it were a free show. They would be energized and stimulated by what they saw the children doing.
We quickly leave this scene horrified at what we saw. As we continue in the night of saying our goodbyes, there was a moment where Michelle and I stayed behind in the car while the rest of the girls prayed over some women. As we were in the car, be begin to voice to each other what we had just witnessed. Then we begin to pray.
We prayed for:
The Children-that they would somehow still have an innocence about them.
-that the words sung would not sink in
-for courage and boldness not to go to the disco
The Mothers -to not allow their children to go to this
The Men Looking On -that they would see the children as children and not a show
Someone to say “this is enough”-for someone to stand up and not tolerate this anymore
We prayed and we prayed with tears flowing from our eyes. I was deeply praying for someone to stand up and say “this is enough” and to remove the disco entirely.
We go back to our place at the end of the night to discover that the guys had locked the door. This was a little intimidating since there were 50 LARGE frogs hopping all around us. Robby opens the door to say that our housemate Justin had just revealed a lot of his life to Robby & David and that we should be in prayer for them as they were about to pray.
Knowing only this, we instantly go into our bedroom and did just that.
The next morning we discovered that he received true freedom in Christ. That he has known for some time the story of Jesus but never accepted him.
It turns out that this man is the one in charge of the Rec Center and has full control over the Disco! The stuff this man was able to lay down in his life and receive freedom in was incredible and jaw dropping. This man had a full transformation in one night.
We left him in the hands of our contact-knowing that he would only grow in his walk with the Lord.
I left the outback encouraged and ready for a big change. I was able to see God answer our deep cries of destroying the Disco will happen through this man as he grows closer to the Lord.
