After a long and exciting week of ministry,
our ministry contact wanted to take us to a waterfall (the little jewel of this
community). Knowing about this, we got excited and packed our togs (aka
swimsuits), thongs (aka flip flops) and towels for this waterfall. They told us
stories about swimming with freshwater crocodiles (that would NOT eat or harm
us), climbing up the waterfall and the option of jumping off of it. Who
wouldn’t get excited about this?!?!

When we woke up that morning, we got a
phone call from our contact saying that he was stranded under a tree somewhere
about 2 hours away and that we should come and get him. Knowing only this, we
went out looking for him under a tree. We finally discover him in a park under a
tree and found he had some car problems. Because we were so far away from the
waterfalls, he decided to take us to thermal pools that were close by.

As soon as we started to hike into where
the pools were located, we quickly discovered thousands of bats above us. They
were chirping, flying, sleeping and pooping (yes on me) above us. It was
incredible! I was in total awe of the creatures above me (though some of my
other teammates were more in fear than awe).

After the pools, we were waiting for our
contact to return to us, and discovered a wallaby. We were able to pet it! It
was harmless and loved the attention. This was a total gift from God to our
team. We had been praying for a close interaction with a kangaroo/wallaby and
this certainly qualified as being close!
