Here are some of the answers to some of the most popular questions asked about me and my trip.

What is the World Race?

The World Race is an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 different countries around the world, and it’s not your typical missions experience.  It’s a way for young adults to abandon a traditional lifestyle in exchange for a dramatic paradigm shift.

Through adventure, ministry, community, and self-discovery, World Racers develop broken hearts that propel their hands to act for God’s kingdom around the globe.  The best part of the World Race is it’s merely the beginning of a life-long journey.

What will you be doing?

The ministry that we are doing is dependent on the country and the need that county has.

How much are you living off of?

Each day I am living on $7 or less. This pays for my food (all 3 meals) and housing. My team of 7 (Team GLO), is in charge of managing our money. This $7 is for our food and housing for that month. We are not forced to live in our tents every month. If we have budgeted correctly, we could rent a hostel for a month. Or we could be sleeping in a church or orphanage (if the contact person allows it).

What is your current support status?

As of December 18, 2009 I am at $5,713 (this includes the monthly pledges)

When will you get back to the United States?

I will be getting back a day or so before Thanksgiving 2010.

What are you most excited about?

I am most excited about the new cultures I will get to experience. I love learning new cultures, customs and languages. In addition to this, I am excited to be used in many ways. I will be building buildings, holding orphans, ministering to the gypsies, teaching women job skills to escape the life of prostitution, preaching to large groups (and small ones), feeding the homeless, clothing the naked, talking to the lepers,  pray for the broken, and love the people. What excites me is the freedom in ministry we have.

What are you nervous/scared/unsure about?

Right now it all kind of seems surreal. Yes I am beyond excited for it all, but this will all begin in less than 15 days! Wow!

In addition to this, I am unsure of how I will react to some of the things I will see. I know seeing the orphans dying of AIDS will be hard for me. I have no idea how I will react seeing women trying to escape the horrible sex industry they were sold into. I do not know if I will be angry of the people allowing it to continue. I think this opportunity is a great way to open my eyes to the poverty and corruption of this world. How will it affect me? I do not know. I do know that it will be hard. I just hope that what I see turns into action. That I will not just sit and cry over it, but that I might stand up and fight for justice. That I fight for the people stuck in this system.

What do you plan on doing after the trip?

Right now I really do not know. I see this trip as a sample of what to come. I will see what ministries I am good at, the people I connect with and where I can best serve. With that said, if I had to make a prediction on what I would be doing a year from now, I would say one of two things.

1.       1. I would be teaching English (and possibly math) in India or somewhere in Africa and doing a ministry having to do with children. This could be working at an orphanage, teaching Sunday School, or something entirely different. I know I love working with children and that I do it well.

2.       2. Another possibility would be applying for the Samaritan’s Purse Internship. They have a program that goes into countries and does a lot of engineering projects that focus on bringing clean water to the people who have none. This would be a great way to practically use my Civil Engineering Degree .

That is where I am currently standing. I know this is only the beginning and there could be many years served overseas. Only God truly knows what is next for me. It could be somewhere in Ukraine, Thailand, Australia or even here in the United States.
