If you are reading this blog, you are probably a future racer, current racer, family or friend, or you just randomly found my blog. Whatever reason you are reading this, God has asked me to talk about your mission.
In the definition up above you can see a mission is something that you are assigned to do and usually involves travel. God assigns every Christian a mission: to share the love He has given us and to share His word. The second part to a mission is travel. Most missions are international, traveling all over the world to spread the word of God. But, missions are not always overseas.
After graduation in December, I moved back home with my parents and started working and preparing for the race. (I am blessed to have parents who let me come live with them again! I bet they thought they were done with me!) I am preparing for my mission: to downsize my closet to fit in a pack and to travel to 11 countries in 11 months to spread the love of Jesus.
For the past month, I have looked through countless blogs in search of the most efficient way to pack, I have gone to many outdoor stores pricing the things I need and finding the cheapest place to buy. I have 4 tabs open on my computer with different backpacks to make sure I pick the perfect bag. Sound silly? Yeah, I know. But that’s what I thought was so important. I thought I needed to get the best quality for the best price, so I would spend hours researching the best backpack, the best external hard drive, the best computer case, the best camera, etc.
One of the many times I was searching for things I need for the race, my computer turned black. My first thought: Oh no! I didn’t save anything, I’m going to have to look up everything again! As I was panicking and figuring out what happened, God gave me peace. He reminded me that He placed me at my parents house in this town for a reason. He reminded me that yes, He called me to go on the World Race, but He also called me here at this place to spread the love of Jesus and spread His word to my family, friends, and to the people I’m in contact with. To be honest with you, since I’ve been here for almost 2 months, I haven’t been doing that. I just kinda checked out for awhile with my reasoning being my mission is not til July so I can chill and not do much. WRONG! God has given me a mission that shouldn’t be for one place or the other, my mission is everywhere I am.
So what does this have to do with you? Whether you are preparing for a mission trip like the World Race or not, you have a mission wherever you are. Your mission is at your workplace, your school, your class, your study group, your bible study, your church, and even in the line at Wal-Mart or Target. As a Christian, we are called to share the love of Jesus everywhere. I challenge you as I am challenging myself to ask God what you can do to spread His word and His love. Is it praying for someone you know that is having a hard time or is sick? Is it telling them about how you became a Christian? Is it sharing your testimony with a friend or a group of friends? Just ask Him to use you and He will! I promise! Don’t just sit back like I did and think you are not on a mission. Nonbelievers are watching you, whether you know it or not. Show them God's love!
I'm just going to leave you with these verses:
Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do in word or dee, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
2 Timothy 1:7 " For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline."
God Bless!
