First day in Guatemala! Made it safely with many warm greetings from my amazing teammates EARLY this morning! From the window of the airplane I could see the sunrise as we were preparing to land into this beautiful country.

I can assure you mom, sis and family that I am in good hands!

What a day! First day in Guatemala and it happens to be my birthday! I wouldn’t want to spend my 25th year of life doing anything else than this! Today we explored the town of Antigua where we will be staying for the next few days. This tiny little town is located near the active volcano Pacaya that I hope to hike soon.

My team and I walked the cobblestone streets of Antigua near the towns square earlier this afternoon and to our surprise we heard a marching band making their way through the town to the beat of our very own, Lady Gaga bad romance! Their rendition may have been better then Gaga’s!

After the street performance we purchased items at the local market to make chicken tostados at our hostel. I am very impressed with this hostel it is clean, has comfy beds, a kitchen that is open to the outdoors and most importantly the people here are very hospitable and kind.  At lunch we were eating on the patio watching the rainfall with the thunder booming loudly in the background as we talked as a team of our future endeavors around the world and what we are most excited about!

Where we are going from here…

We will be working with Rosa De Amor for the month of October. It is located in San Lucas, Guatemala, northeast of Antigua. There we will be doing various projects such as tutoring, playing sports with the kids, having bible studies, and many arts and crafts projects. The kids hear at Rosa De Amor need a ton of encouragement and are especially in need of the love of Christ!

I am really looking forward to meeting these kids and to get to work! For now I am enjoying Antigua and spending time with our squad as a whole before we brake up into our small teams.

Love and miss you all!
