In no particular order…
- I am a huge procrastinator…I already have a bad feeling about my blog updates. I will also admit that when I found out that the blog was mandatory I was a bit hesitant. Opening up and sharing personal thoughts with strangers on the internet is something that terrifies me. But I am going to try my best! I can’t guarantee that you will always read something inspiring or even interesting but I’m really hoping that if you stick with me this year you are going to see some big changes in my life!
- I went to school to become a dental hygienist only to realize 2 years later that I do not enjoy looking at teeth everyday. I might not be passionate about my current career choice, but I will definitely be bringing floss on the Race. If I can do one thing for my squad it will be keeping our gingivitis in check.
- I am a proud Canadian (which just basically means I enjoy free health care, say 'eh' from time to time, and I put maple syrup on all of my breakfast foods)
- I spent the month of June roadtripping around Europe with my cousins. We visited 11 countries in 1 month (just a small taste of my year to come?)
- I really love to cook! If I didn’t go on the World Race I was considering going to culinary school, and without a doubt my celebrity crush is Jamie Oliver (I met him at a book signing once and had a very minor panic attack) One of the things I love about traveling is experiencing new cultures through food…I am definitely of the mindset that you should always try everything once (even those eggs in the Philippines with the baby chick still inside)
- I think it would be awesome to be able to speak more than one language…(hopefully I can change at least a little bit this year). Right now all I can manage is a tiny bit of French, a few phrases of Italian, and the alphabet and the word for ‘Yugoslavia’ in American Sign Language.
- I am the oldest in my family with 3 younger brothers…I had always wanted a sister when I was growing up, but I feel very lucky I have all of them now!
- I will literally drive a mile out of my way to avoid parallel parking on a busy street.
- I can appreciate neutrals (who doesn’t love a new white t-shirt?) but I am a sucker for bright colours…I am often told that I dress like a 12 year old. Needless to say, the neon trend this spring made me pretty excited (I may or may not own fluorescent pink running shoes)
- I love being outdoors and camping in the woods, but at the same time I really do love running water…(just one more thing to add to my list of things of things I’m going to miss this year.)
- I am afraid of birds flapping around my head, but I would love to have a backyard chicken coop one day and collect the eggs every morning.
- I strongly believe that there is an episode of Seinfeld that can relate to most situations in life.
- I love to swim…I’ve always loved the crashing waves of the ocean but you just can’t beat swimming in the fresh water lakes of Northern Ontario (although if the water is too cold it will literally take me 20 minutes to get in past my belly button)
- I always make fun of my Mom for her enormous notebook collection, but I have a weakness for new Moleskin journals…I am planning on stocking up before we leave in September!
- I love to read…this might be because my parents got rid of our cable when we were younger so I was probably forced to love it, but I now get anxious if I don’t have a book to read.
- I would never call myself a health nut, but I have been known to add chia seeds and ground flax to just about anything.
- I am definitely not a high maintenance girl but seriously, who am I kidding? the idea of living out of a single pack for almost an entire year makes me a bit nervous.
- People always used to tell me that I should have been a kindergarten teacher after they saw my handwriting.
- I don’t think I would call myself a shy person, but I am definitely not an extrovert. Huge crowds of people I don’t know makes me feel uneasy…just give me a chance to get to know you though!
- I have the best family in the world, and I know I am going to miss them like crazy. My cousin who has always been a big sister to me just had twins and the thought of not seeing them for a year makes my heart hurt.
- I have never felt such a confusion of emotions as I do when I consider my year on the World Race. I am over the moon with excitement and at the same time completely terrified. I will often feel completely overwhelmed and inadequate to even be considering a trip like this, but at the same time I am completely confident that this is where God wants me to be…so here goes nothing!
