What Does Ministry on the Race Look Like?

This is really a tough question to answer.  In all honesty, it could look like ANYTHING!

This month, my team has gone from building fences, to teaching English, to exploring waterfalls and lakes with students, to writing grant proposals and siuational analysis reports.

So far on the Race, we have:

Painted churches, orphanages, and cars

Stripped paint off a car

Built part of a church

Preached sermons at church services as well as in people's homes

Held orphans

Played games with children

Tutored school-aged kids through their homework

Done some housekeeping

Played soccer with street kids

Helped organize and advertise for a Crusade event

Handed out food to the poor and forgotten of the town

Led youth group events

Picked up trash on the streets as well as around a hospital

Held "Los Pipitos" (the disabled children that families are ashamed to have) and helped them do physical therapy

Sung children to sleep
Gone house to house leading bible studies and praying over families (also praying we wouldn't break through their floor)
Visited a boy every day for a month to pray healing over him

Taken a boy and his family to enjoy a day at the pool

Taught English to university students, undergrad through PhD

Served coffee and food in a coffee shop

Organized Open Mic nights and Game nights at the coffee shop

Ate lunch on university campuses and sat with random strangers to invite them to the coffee shop

Played volleyball in college gym classes, conversing with the students between games

Gone to the market and/or mall with students to cultivate relationships

Taught English to children

Homeschooled

Built a fence

Built desks for an English school

Danced like idiots with 80 kids in the dusty streets at night

Wrote grant proposals for an English school and for a hostel

Wrote up a Situational Analysis Report for the area we were living for future plans of reaching out in the area

Held babies

Came up with new wood carving designs for the carpenter to make

Designed flyers for local attractions to be used by a local tour guide

Went to a baby party and danced around with no one we knew

Blogged for the people back home to be a part of it…..

But the best part is, you don't have to be on the Race or overseas to do ministry!  You don't even have to work in a church!  Every day can be ministry, should be ministry.  If you are a follower of Jesus, every action, every word, every look should SCREAM JESUS.

This life is about so much more than your (or my) happiness and well being.
We are living to bring glory to God.  Life is hard; it's not about you; you are not in control.
You have been given this life by God [Job 12:10].
Every created thing speaks of God and His infinite glory [Psalm 19:1, Psalm 145:10, Romans 1:20].  Why should we as humans be any different?  First Corinthians 10:31 tells us  "whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

I saw this quote posted on one of my squad mates' wall on Facebook.  It's a great challenge to us all:

So what are you waiting for?!
Go!
Make disciples!
Let every act of your life be a living testimony to what God has done and is doing!

He loved the world SO MUCH that he sent his Son to die for us while we were still sinners because we earned death as the wages for our sin.  But because of his death, we can have life and life ABUNDANTLY!  It's His free gift to each one of us.  All we have to do is believe it and receive it.

Do you know that Jesus loves you?
If you were the only person He saved by coming to die on the cross, He still would of done it.
He has pursued you from farther than space and longer ago than time.  That's some crazy love!  Unfathomable!   But true!
He loves you and wants to not only give you eternal life after your time on this earth, but also to give you life NOW, life to the fullest.

So what do you say?
