I’m currently writing this blog in the pouring rain in the Philippines… Is this real life!?

After about two and a half days of traveling we arrived in Manila, Philippines and we are staying here until probably October 1st, then we will be on our way to Tacloban where we will stay until we leave for Swaziland. We are working with Kids International Missions and staying at one of their centers here in Manila and will be doing the same in Tacloban.

Every day we have 8 hours of ministry work which can consist of swimming with street kids, tutoring, devotionals, watching kids in the nursery, playing with kids at KIM’s children’s home, walking around the community talking to people, or “feedings”.

Everyday there is two feedings which is where they cook two giant bins of hot rice type food and bring it to one of ten different sites (each team goes about twice a week to feedings), when we get in the village we yell feeding and crowds of women and children come running to us holding out cups, mugs, bowls, or plastic bags until we run out of food. Coming into the Philippines was eye opening; there are no littering laws so garbage is everywhere, their “homes” (if you can call them that) are little shacks that are on top of each other. However what I have noticed is that they don’t care about things, they care about people. We have wifi about once a week and it has made me realize how much I miss out on back home always having technology. Being able to walk out into the village and talk to people and get to know there stories is probably one of my favorite things, and not having technology to distract me has been so good. People can miss out on so many opportunities if there is always a screen in front of them. So this is where I want to challenge you (now you’re probably wishing you never read this 😉 ), next time your waiting in line don’t pull out your phone; look for opportunities or just take time to observe people, when you’re in a group of friends or hanging with family take time to love the people around you, or when you’re just sitting around just be still.

This is right to the left of where we are staying, when we stand out on the balcony in the morning this is our view.
