Today I played a round of golf for the first time in about 4 years. It was played with my brother and an older gentleman. We got to talking and on hole 3, we found out that this man is an astrophysicist and works for the European Space Agency. I was fascinated by many of his stories, but one that caught my attention was when he talked about visiting Malaysia. Now, this isn’t one of the nations that I’m visiting during The World Race, but he talked about the poverty that existed there and I had the opportunity to share about my trip that I’m leaving for in September. We began talking about children who didn’t have an opportunity to live to adulthood because of disease and poverty. He said one comment in particular struck me and it was this: “God can only do so much.”
This question stirred up a lot of questions in my mind, none of which came out verbally, but mainly the question of “Why does that stuff have to happen?” I’m not going to claim to have the answers for that question, but I do know this much. Jesus sees that stuff going on, and it breaks his heart. Also, just sitting back and watching it happen is not going to change things. Going and doing what little I am able to can make a world of difference, even if only for a single person. I’m thrilled to be able to go and meet a variety of people around the globe and see the lives that they lead. I’m excited to get to enter into their life and walk along side them through the struggles. Whether or not they are changed, I know I will be changed on this journey. That is probably the thing I’m looking forward to the most on The World Race; the opportunity to abandon everything and allow God to change my heart in the most radical way.
I thank everyone again for their prayers, they truly mean a lot to me, and I’m seeing them being fulfilled already! It’s amazing to have so many folks who are so encouraging and pushing me to grow closer to The Lord. Thanks again, I hope to write to see you all before I leave for the summer!
