The church we are working with is small but mighty. The pastora of the church is a little fireball. Most of the time, we don’t really understand what is going on, but she still expects us to be on fire for the words that are coming out of her mouth. We tend to get looked down on when we don’t yell “AMEN!” So we’ve learned to listen for some ques on when to follow with a shout. If we hear, “amen o amen?!” Or “hola?!” Or “hola, estan aqui?!” Or a crescendo of her voice while she intently stares us down followed by a brief pause, we are to yell “AMEN!”

We laugh about it, but in all seriousness, the passion of the people of Peru has been truly inspiring. When they pray, they are bawling as the plead with God. When they worship, they are jumping around with an uncontainable joy. When they preach, their words do not land on empty ears. And this passion is in every service (which is just about everyday and sometimes twice a day). It’s a genuine passion that demonstrates their desperation for God and the connection that has resulted from it. I’m learning from their example and growing in my own passion. I don’t know what this looks like exactly as I continue on in my race, but I have a feeling that my desperation for God will become deeper as this adventure goes on.

AMEN!
