AUSTRALIA!

After spending a relaxing 10 days in Seim Reap for our team debrief and after getting surprised with having to have visas to get into Australia, we loaded onto our tiny JetStar airplane and made our way to the land of kangaroos and crocs.

Luckily, I was able to find a comfortable crunched up position to sleep and was able to sleep the whole six hours. We stamped our passport and our contact was waiting for us.

Rog and Viv live just over the harbor from Darwin in a sweet little outback community of Wagait Beach. We are just 1km from the beach, but swimming isn’t an option, since there are crocs. They live in their little outback house with one of their sons, his wife- who is just weeks away from having a little boy- and their little girl, Sky.

God has answered my prayer once again and I have two pets this month! Samson and Cat. Cat doesn’t have a name yet, but I’ll soon give him one.

We are spending this first week here at home, fixing up the yard since it was hit by the monsoon a while back. Raking the acre of land for hours every morning reminds me of being home and helping my parents with yard projects. Who would have thought that all those years were preparing me for missions? Thanks mom and dad :]

But really, I only raked leaves of one day. I’m putting my degree to good use. I have been put to work on helping Rog update his website, his blog, his guitar business, and power point that he uses when visiting churches. While I’m busy in the mornings ‘working’ away building websites and drinking tea, my amazing teammates are fixing up the Latham’s property.

We are also getting lessons from THE Roger Latham himself! He’s created this amazing little guitar program and we are getting a free seminar. We might even start a band. haha ‘Been wanting to play that since I was a little girl (shout out to Rachel! *Fountain Girls*).

We have also had the opportunity to have a sleep over with some girls from the Aboriginal Community near the Latham’s home. Viv works as a nurse and mid wife in the community and seen these children grow up. We ate dinner and sang songs all night and in the morning we painted our nails. It didn’t take long for me to really love these girls and the culture. I can’t wait until next week when we get to spend a whole week just living in the community.

The humidity is doing wonders for my new short hair cut. But I must say, I love that we can always count on it to rain during the day. It’s the perfect time to sit out on the veranda and drink a cup of tea. Life as a missionary in Australia is so tough :]
