Hi There! My name is Katy Gurley and I am currently studying photography at the Art Institute of Dallas. I’m originally from Georgetown, Texas which is just north of Austin.  I come from an amazing family; I have an older sister who is 25, a younger brother who is 13.  My parents are two of the most wonderful people in the entire world. I am truly truly blessed!!

2010 is going to be one of the greatest years of my life! I have tried and tried to make plans for my life, but God has something greater in store :] When i graduated high school, my plan was to get a psychology degree and start a clinic helping girls with eating disorders. two years later, here I am, months away from away from graduating with a degree in photography.  Best. Job. Ever. There is not a day that goes by that I hate what I do. This month I have secured the opportunity to shoot my first wedding!! And if finally hit me that this is going to be my career.  What a way to start the year! So from here I shoot my first wedding, then a few days later I’m off to Florida to see my best friend get married, I come back to Texas to take a family vacation to Tennessee, shortly after I get back from vacation and celebrating my birthday, I graduate college then set off to travel the world. Who could have ever planned that out?

I love that God meets my every need. With this trip, I decided to take on a second job.  So on top of going to school full time, I walk dogs and work the front desk at a local hotel. God is so good!!! None of my schedules overlap and I still have time to have a social life.  In my free time you’ll find me rock climbing, watching movies or hanging out with my amazing community group.  My community group is made up of five girls from my church, all of them were God sent!! I am addicted to coffee and any kind of undiscovered indi band. I also love all animals. I am known to treat them like they are humans too. Anyone who knows me knows my best friend Bonnie.  Even though she lives in Florida and I live in Texas, we are constantly talking and she knows me more better than anyone on Earth.  I wish I could pack her in my backpack and take her with me, but her fiance might not like that!

Some of you might be wondering just why it is that I am going on an 11 month mission trip to 11 countries all over the world. A good friend Kim wrote me a note about four years ago that still encourages me every day.  A verse she included puts my hearts passion into perfect words….

“And then the voice of God said,’whom shall I send? Who will go for me?’ I spoke up, ‘Here I am, Lord! Send me!”-Isaiah 6:8
“Get the word out. Teach all these things. And don’t let anyone put you down because you are young. Teach believers with your life”-1 Timothy 4:11
