What did you do today?
Did you wake up in a nice, comfortable bed? Maybe take a shower, and get dressed in clean clothes? Eat some breakfast? Brush your teeth?
This month my team has spent some time in the local garbage dump. That may sound like an odd place to hang out and spend a day, but really, we were spending time with the people who LIVE there. I was absolutely stunned when I learned that people were living there. So, imagine their life for a second.
They woke up under a piece of cardboard. Maybe got changed into some clothes they found in some incoming trash yesterday. Eat a little bit of food found in the same trash bag, and go to work. Working for them is sifting through the garbage, looking for any recyclables that could bring in some money for them to provide for their families.
Words cannot do this justice. You have to see it. And once you do, you won’t ever forget it.
The two teams working together this month, Rooted and Wreckonciled, pooled our money and brought them water and some fruit. Its not a lot, but maybe it was just what they needed to get through that day. While were handing out these bags, my extremely creative teammate Joel was inspired to tell the story of the people here. So please, watch this video and get a glimpse into their lives. And pray.
