A couple of nights ago, Kellen and I were walking around the small community of Buenos Aires, DR, with a local guy as our guide and translator. We were just walking around, following where we felt the Holy Spirit was leading us, and talking and praying with the people we met along the way. It was an amazing experience, but right now I want to tell you a little bit about the local guy we were walking with.

I really wish I could tell you his name, but I can’t even pronounce it let alone spell it. He is 19 years old, is heavily involved in ministry, and teaches at the school associated with the church. We were talking with him while we were walking around and Kellen asked him what his plans for his life were. Did he want to teach at the school forever, or what was he planning on doing in the future. This guy’s answer was so simple but so profound:
I’m Living

He is taking his life one day at a time, and just living. And really, isn’t that all we need to be doing? Why do we worry about the future so much? We stress and make plans and worry. Matthew 6: 25-34 talk about how worrying for the future does no good. All we need to do is seek God’s kingdom. That’s exactly what this young guy is doing. He is living each day doing what God calls him to do, and leaving his heart wide open for the future.

We had this conversation a couple of days ago, but I still can’t get his answer off my mind. “I’m living.” That’s it. I don’t think that walking with this guy was a coincidence, I think God wants me to learn a lesson from him. And I think the World Race is a great place to learn this lesson. I have no idea what we’re doing next week, let alone next month. So what am I going to do this year? What am I doing this week?

I’m Living.
