I’m so in love with South Africa! Cape Town is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, and everyone we’ve met here has been so gracious and welcoming.
We arrived two Sundays ago, ready to kiss the ground after a 15-hour plane ride, a night sleeping on the airport floor, and a 19-hour bus ride. Our team is the largest on the squad with 8 people, so we’re split into 3 host homes. Corinne, Kimberly, and I are so blessed to be staying with Tanya and Alvin and their 2 daughters Talisha and Samantha. They have spoiled us so much! We live in a community that is primarily navy families. Alvin is in the navy and trains marines, and Tanya teaches at the school where we’re doing ministry. The school is really awesome because they’ve given us so much freedom here – to play games, share God, etc. We’re technically here to help with the P.E. (or P.T. as they call it) classes, but we also have been substituting for teachers a bit and sharing testimonies and the work that God has done and is doing. It’s really awesome how the freedom they’ve given us has resulted in so many relationships being formed and deep conversations.
In our free time, we’ve gone to the beach, played with penguins, surfed, hiked Table Mountain, and we went to the South Africa vs. Nigeria soccer game (which we lost 1-3). It’s been such an amazing time!
This month has been so wonderful – I can’t believe it’s almost over! It doesn’t really feel like we’ve started the Race yet because I’ve felt so at home here. Please pray for the relationships we’ve formed here – that they will point the kids to Jesus so that our impact will result in positive, permanent transformations. Also that more teachers and faculty will form relationships with Jesus to act as Christian mentors to the children. And for our last week here – that we will be really intentional and finish well!
