Every racer who is about to leave for The World Race is busy with preparations. We have to get shots. We have to purchase equipment. We have fundraising. Letters, phone calls, emails, thank you cards, and meetings with people have to be done.

We are stalking our squad members to find out more about them as if eleven months will not be enough time. We book worms are looking at our bookshelves with sad eyes thinking, “If only I could take a suitcase just for my books” and thinking we just might have to break down and get an eReader.

We are trying to figure out just exactly how we can pack everything we need and maybe throw in a few luxury items from home. The list goes on and on and never seems to end.

If you are not a racer you are still preparing for something. You may be preparing for school, a summer vacation, buying a house, getting married, summer camps, or other various activities. Americans, and most people drawn into the culture, become busy with preparations. We are constantly doing something and it never ends.

This morning I got up and prayed to God to reveal something to me that I needed to see or know. He gave me a passage to read. I want to share that passage with you.

 Luke 10:38-42

38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

41 But the Lord said to her, My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Martha was so busy with preparations. She was trying to serve Jesus, but was most likely flustered. She wanted Mary to help!

Even though she was trying to serve Jesus she got distracted by the preparations.

What is distracting you? What busy works are keeping you from just sitting down and spending time with your heavenly Father and Savior? Are you stuck serving in a ministry trying to please God and getting burned out that you feel like you can not have a moment with Jesus alone?

Picture yourself at the throne of God, sitting at His feet, listening to His Words. What is He trying to tell you among all the business and preparations?

Stop being busy with all the preparations and remember there is only one concern; to spend time with Jesus. In Him is everything you need.
