My time in Guatemala with AOJ was among my favorite memories on the race. I loved having whole classes of kindergardeners and first graders swarm me as I walk through the front door. Swinging kids around on the playground till my back screamed “No more!” Turning the jump rope, counting and hoping each girl would beat their own best. Playing tag and hide seek and pato, pato, gonzo (duck, duck, goose) were not just child’s play; they were my job, my mission, my calling.
When I was not playing, I did do a little teaching. Stephanie and I taught a lot of songs to the kids, most of them have stuck with us. At any given moment, we can be caught sining “What’s the weather?” or the days of the week song. Not only the songs stuck with me, each face has left an impression that will not soon leave. This video is mostly for me, but I thought I would share some of the blessings God has brought into my life.
