You know those moments of bliss? The ones where you find your soul longing for the moment to never end? The beauty of those moments is unexplainable. It’s like a faint secret, slowly whispering its way through every inch of your being, filling you with peace.
Welcome to my afternoon.
In the distance I could see the majestic mountains covered in greenery, the still palm trees, the fluttering butterflies, and the fragrant wildflowers. The sun was illuminating the fields and the forest as we sat in the refuge of the cool shade. Exotic birds spoke to one another from the branches of trees. Behind me stood Remember Nhu, overflowing with the melodic voices of the older girls praising Jesus during their bible study. On my lap and wedged next to me sat the loving younger girls. One little girl was painting my fingernails, another my toenails. A team of little ones braided my hair and filled it with wildflowers that spilled down around my face.
My heart filled with hope and my faced filled with a smile as I reflected on the life these girls are able to live. Each precious little face has been brought to Remember Nhu with purpose. Each darling little girl has been gifted with security and safety from the sex trade. They cannot be sold.
These little girls can find an escape from reality in this home. They are provided an education, three meals a day, a bed, a family, an abundance of love, and the Gospel. Days are filled with laughter, hugs, games, explorations, thankfulness, and praising the Savior.
Falling in love with these sweet little angels has already proved inevitable for our team. Each moment I spend with them I feel as if my heart might burst from joy and love. And I just met them.
I can’t help but wonder, if I love them so much how does their creator feel about them? How can God possibly love these girls more than I do? But I know He does. And I know that Remember Nhu isn’t their real refuge. The wings of their heavenly Father is, and here they are offered that truth.
But isn’t that the truth for all of us? It’s so easy to forget sometimes how incredibly enamored Jesus is with us. He longs for us to run to him for refuge. He adores us. He will protect us and provide for us. Those moments of bliss-the ones we never want to end, the ones where there is a resounding assurance that we could live in that moment forever- I truly believe that the Lord feels that way each moment we spend in His presence.
Sitting in that love and in His presence this afternoon in Thailand was an experience, a moment, I will never forget.
Love,
Kara
