HOPE—
This is Africa.
Nairobi, Kenya-
We took an 8 hour bus from Bangalore to Chennai, India. From there we flew to Bahrain, and from Bahrain to Nairobi, Kenya. There’s this immediate expectation of Africa to be ridiculously hot with no food or internet—we kept telling this to ourselves, kind of “think the worst and maybe it’ll be better” mentality. But immediately off the plane the sun was setting the sky and the temperature was 70 degrees or so and there was a breeze in the air and for the first time in 2 months there was this sound, or lack thereof, that we adored. There was no honking of cars, and I could breathe clean air. Oh Africa! It wasn’t just love at first sight, it was love at first sight, breath, and sound. And it was good, indeed.
The squad piled on a bus and Kyle and I began talking about all the fun things in Africa and our plans for the next few days. We look to our left and what to our wondering eyes should appear are giraffes grazing in the grass. What?! They’re just hanging out and it’s not the zoo. They’re just grazing in the grass right outside the airport in Nairobi.
We stayed at Milimani Backpackers in Nairobi and met a lot of really neat people during our time there. Like Trey, who works in Sudan as a Missionary. My team got to dream together as a team for things that we want to see happen on the Race. So we made a list on an island in the middle of a stretched pond at a park in Nairobi. A list of big dreams and ambitions for ways we want to see God move this year.
We were in Nairobi for Debrief, which happens after 4 months on the Race. To go over how you are, where you are, how team dynamics are, where you want to go, etc. This is the time where people are ready to be real because you’re walking into month 5.
So I’m ready to take a leap of faith, walking in confidence, walking in boldness, walking in all authority that’s given to me. Lets be real. Rewind 5 months ago and I couldn’t have told you much about this, but if you fast forward ahead 5 months, I couldn’t imagine being on this journey without knowing what I know now about the holy spirit, the promises of the Lord, scripture, life and things I've been taught. And I have changed and grown in a ridiculous amount of ways, experiences such as this enable that growth to happen.
