Hey folks. So month two in Nicaragua has come and gone and it has become apparent that the race is only going to continue flying by more quickly with each passing month. Nicaragua was an incredible opportunity for ministry for my team and me. We were able to debrief month one with the entire squad in Granada, which is also where we did ministry for the month, and then set out as an entire squad to do ministry together for the remainder of the month.
We stayed at a church and ministry base called El Puente, which means “the bridge.” From there, each team split off into various ministries located in the Granada area. Some teams worked on a farm helping clear thorn bushes and planting trees. Others helped prepare the way for some school houses to be built. There were opportunities to visit with a retirement community, do ministry at a train station, and play soccer with kids in the middle of the street. One thing was certain, ministry opportunities were always waiting at our fingertips.
One of the most incredible opportunities was on an island called Isla Zapatera, which is located in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. Every four days, two teams would go out to the island to work with a pastor and his family who were working on building a church for the 300+ people living on the island. There is so much I could say about the island, much of it likely would not make sense unless you were able to be there and experience it, but know that the Lord is moving in some radical ways in Nicaragua as a result of this pastor and his family.
I could continue, but similar to my experience in Costa Rica, I prefer to show you via the following video:
