I think “About Me” sections are one of my least favorite things in the whole world because I’m genuinely terrible at them, but I’m gonna give it a shot anyway!
Hi. My name is Joe Barnes and I currently live in Harrisonburg, VA. I was born in Ohio but my family moved to Harrisonburg when I was just two years old. Ever since then, I fell in love with Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. Growing up in Harrisonburg, however, I always had a desire to get out and see something different. Fortunately the Lord had different plans and kept me home where I’ve met some of the greatest people and had the chance to do some things I never would have imagined getting to do. Not to mention my family is here and they’re really great.
Speaking of them, I’m the youngest (28) of three siblings. My older sister, Lesley, is by far the most amazing person I know. My older brother, Kent, was my role model growing up and one of the most instrumental people in my first steps following Jesus. My mom and dad have always been a great support structure along the way. They’ve graciously allowed me to make mistakes and made sure those mistakes never went to waste. There was always some kind of lesson to learn, even when I didn’t want to hear it. Needless to say, my family has always played a massive role in developing me into the man I am today.
Moving on…
For the past nine years, I’ve had the best job working with the best group of middle and high school students at First Presbyterian Church. They’ve played a huge role in my development as a leader. I have countless awesome stories from my “almost-decade” working with them. They are easily the coolest group of people I know.
So let’s go ahead and wrap this thing up with some fun facts/hobbies, yea?
I love music. I try to play basketball and soccer…try being the operative word. My favorite food is probably anything that doesn’t grow in the ground. Blue is a great color. So is green. I broke my hand when I was 12 trying to fight a football tackling dummy. I was not a smart child. But hey, God is good.
OH YEA. I almost forgot. I have a dog. His name is Chipper. He’s great.
