(I wrote this blog last month during our HOT Botswana stay)

Things that we find normal on the daily life of a racer!

1. We strive to find some kind of alone time, to make sure we’re making time with Jesus.
2. We Do what we can to find alone time, while being surrounded by your teammates 24/7, and we do this, in order to keep our sanity! hahahaha
3. If you’re in a route that has Asian or African counties, the likelihood of you being HOT and Sweaty would be 100% of the time!
4. We hand wash our clothes, almost all the time! Having a washing machine would be a luxury! And forget about the dryer!! I haven’t seen or used one in the past 10 months so far!
5, Sadly, but true… we talk constantly about poop stories! This happens because well… we have lots of issues with this when it comes to diarrhea, or just not being able to go to the bathroom at all!!!
6. You’ll learn that flexibility is KEY to survive the race! Things change all the time, you can make plans, but be sure to know that those plans will change!! And that’s ok too because God teaches you a lot of patience through all of it!
7. We get to check for scorpions on our towels, our clothes, our shoes, and pretty much everywhere that we’re at, all the time! And when we find them, we learn to become scorpion killers!
8. We tend to stare at the ground as we walk constantly. And that is because we always have to watch where we’re going, to not trip on something and fall, or to make sure you’re not stepping on a snake or another critter that comes along!
9. We learn to be construction workers, preachers, teachers, chefs, good leaders, great followers, and even mommies or daddies to many children who just need so much love of Jesus.
10. Yes, we get to see so much of the world, and its wonders, and we get to take great pictures when we have our days off, however we usually only get to do all the cool stuff, maybe once a month when we’re lucky enough to be near cool places to go to on our days off!
11. Most of the time we walk to our ministry sites, and our walks are usually long and tiring, but we learn to embrace them.
12. a hot shower is a luxury! And they are rare on the race. When we get one, ohhh we usually truly enjoy them!
13. We live on $5 a day! Yes, that is what should cover our daily meals. It’s hard living on such little budget, but somehow God always provides.
14. We learn to embrace and enjoy our community, even on the hard days!
15. We tend to have a poverty mentality. And by this what I mean, is sometimes when we tend to be in a big city and we see a chocolate that we like or reminds us of home, or a fast food place, or something that we think we won’t ever see it again, we tend to over eat, or over buy, thinking that we’ll never see such item again because of how deprived we think we are! key word… think! hahahaha
16. We constantly miss home and look at pictures of our family and friends and we talk about them all the time!
17. Sometimes, we lose sight of sense of style! And that is because we wear the same thing all the time, and than we try to match it up with whatever we can, and we just say… It’s the World Race, so it’s ok!
18. Many of us become readers on the race, because we constantly pass books around! And hey… it’s something I picked up this year, and I like it a lot!
19. We sometimes get to herd goats out of our areas where we’re tenting!! And cows, sheeps, and the goats become our friends as we pass them by each day when we walk to our ministry points!
20. Every time we travel, we get tons of looks because of all of our bags. People think we’re crazy the way we travel! Like why would you carry so much? Not knowing that we carry our house in the back of our backs!

Yup… many funny things… But they are things most of us have experienced over these past 11 months!! And as crazy as all it has been.. I wouldn’t trade it for the world!!

Thanks for reading!

God bless you all!
