As a University of Georgia college student, I had the incredible opportunity to sing in a jazz ensemble called “Classic City Jazz.” With this group, I was able to travel, perform at some incredible venues, and sing with some of the most talented jazz musicians of our time (Dave Brubeck included!) Over the past few years, they’ve started a new tradition of having an annual Valentine’s Day concert at the Chapel at UGA to raise money for the amazing jazz festival in April. The conductor of the group, Mitos Andaya, is honestly one of the most giving, generous, and talented individuaI have ever met. As soon as I told her about the Race, she immediately started brainstorming ways jazz could help. She asked me if I would be interested in singing a solo at the Valentine’s concert and doing a plug for World Race. I was so excited not only to be a part of this concert again, but to have the opportunity to tell more people about the Race. They are also letting my friends and I sell Valentine’s Day treats after the concert to raise money! I honestly couldn’t be more thrilled and humbled to be a part of this group again to promote the Race. So, again, if any one of you are in or around the Athens area this Saturday night, come by the UGA Chapel for a night of awesome jazz standards! We’d love to have you :). Let me know if you need directions!
