Coming into Africa and wondering what ministry was going to look like, sadly the first thing I thought of was orphans. The HIV rate is extremely high here in Zimbabwe; over 3 million of the 11 million population are orphans mostly at the hand of this disease taking their parents lives.
What I didn’t expect was to be met with was such love and joy from these precious children. As soon as the children saw us they ran full force to jump on us and hug us, each just wanting to be held and loved.
We were fortunate enough to be a part of the local orphanage’s first field day. Where we played soccer; red light, green light (or known in Zimbabwe as red robot, green robot); duck, duck, goose; leap frog; and the older kids were taught to putt golf balls.
No matter where you looked you saw a child with a smile from ear to ear, happy to be there, happy to be loved on, happy to have the opportunity to be a kid.
