The quotable and laughable line from Mean Girls “On Wednesday’s We Wear Pink” took on a new meaning in Thailand. It is not just Wednesdays that a specific color is assigned but the entire week is color coordinated.

The specific color for the day depends on an astrological rule, that is influenced by Hindu mythology. Thats smart talk for: “each day is assigned a color based on the God who protects it”. If that wasn’t already confusing enough there are also “unlucky colors” for the days as well . . . and Wednesday’s color vary depending if its day time or night . . . [pause to scratch your head in attempt to understand].

The late King and his son were both born on Monday’s, therefore the King’s flag is yellow and most likely will continue to be after the coronation of the new King. Colors are so important that each of the princess are referred to as the color for the day they were born. For example if you over hear locals speaking about the royal family you may hear “the purple princess is head of the Thai Red Cross”.

The late King was very loved by the Thai people and the country is in mourning awaiting the coronation of the prince to take his father’s place.
