Welcome to the adventure! Some of you may know me, and others not at all. Thank you for taking time to visit my blog! I am so happy that I have the opportunity to share my thoughts and heart with you.
My name is Jessica. I grew up in South Florida with the most amazing parents ever. Although we didn’t have a faith based household, God was working in ways we once couldn’t see. Everyday we are reminded how blessed we are to have one another and thank God for our family dynamic. I was baptized in July of 2015 and continue to pray for my parent’s salvation.
I graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with a Finance Degree. I never really had intentions of using my degree; college was in my parent’s plans for my life, not mine. I have been riding horses for 19 years and training them for about 6. Doing something with horses as a career was always in my cards. In high school I started volunteering with an organization, Horses and the Handicapped, and fell in love. I found a similar program up north, All Riders Up, where I not only got to work hands on with the 17 horses on the property, but also the amazing students with disabilities and wounded warriors – where my passion for this work continued to grow.
The funny thing about having our own plans is God usually has a bigger one in store. In January of this year God placed the World Race on my heart and turned my plans upside down. I was to forced to to actually use my degree for a steady income and make sacrifices like moving back in with my parents in order to follow His plan and literally give up all control and place my trust in Him completely. And here I am!
Random facts about me:
– I LOVE to read; I’m the one who prefers the book to the movie. Which is most likely where my love for writing came from.
– Any activity that involves being outside, count me in!
– Laughing is truly the best medicine.
– I have a huge sweet tooth, brownies are always a yes!
– I love to travel, but not as a tourist. I would rather dive into the culture and experience my trip like the locals live. I still have no idea what I ate in China.
– I love The Lord of the Rings Trilogy; so much so I have an Elvish tattoo on my left shoulder.
– I have gone skydiving twice; never will I ever go bungee jumping.
– I fell in love with hiking after a college elective class “Hiking and Backpacking”.
– I have some interesting horse related injury stories; my poor parents, I put them through a lot.
– I have been living my life by this quote for the past year: “I used to be afraid of failing at things that really mattered to me but now I’m more afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter.” – Bob Goff
I’ve been dramatically transformed by Jesus and sometimes I don’t even recognize the person I’ve grown into. I owe where I am to the people who led me to God and who have poured their love into me when I least deserved it, showing me I was not too far for grace to reach me. God’s kingdom multiplies when people pour out their love to others, the way Jesus did for us, and as so many did for me; and I want to be that for other people.
