Should we really care about our physical bodies?  All I want to do is sleep, eat chocolate, drink coke, and I feel like walking a mile is way too long.  This is how a lot of people are in life.  They feel sluggish, would rather stick to their comforts, sit and watch tv, and don't see any benefit from keeping healthy "physically".  Well, this is where I want to encourage you that you don't need to stay feeling this way!  God wants us to live lives full of energy, joy, and strength!!  We can all strive for this excellence.  You will feel empowered and ready to take on anything that comes to you when you can physically and spiritually bring life to yourself and others!!

I got to teach a workout with the boys soccer team here!!  Anton and I explaining an exercise! Thanks Anton!

Probably the best explanation of holy bodies comes from Romans 6:13 "Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God."

“Present a living holy body to God” means that your members: your eyes, your tongue, your hands and feet—give your body to do righteousness, not sin. That's what would make a body holy.  How can we physically live holy lives?  What can we be doing in order to physically show that we are living lives He wants us to? Remember we are Gods physical instrument. We need to do all we can to honor each member of our body for complete wholeness.
Remember that our goal shouldn't just be that our physical body looks good on the outside.  A man could have the biggest muscles or a girl can be thin but they could still be really unhealthy on the inside.  In order for our bodies to actually be healthy on the inside as well as the outside we need to keep in mind that each "member" of our body needs proper nutrition and care.  There is a reason that our bodies accept or reject certain foods.  God intended for us to eat whole foods: fruits, veggies, some meat, things that have a lot of vitamins and minerals to help benefit and maintain each part of the body.

There is such thing as really yummy tasting healthy food =)  REALLY YUMMY

1 Corinthians 6:12-13
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything. You say, “Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.” (This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies."

—God made our body the way He did on purpose.  When He first created the world he didn't make McDonalds or KFC.  He made fruits, vegetables, grains, animals (that He said He created for us to eat).  These are the things that are intended for our bodies. (Not at all saying thats all we can eat)   We have a choice of what we want to do with our bodies.  We can eat and do whatever we want with our bodies-that's not a question.  But is what you are putting inside your body helpful?  Is it helping to build or tear down the temple that is the home to the spirit that God created so perfectly and intricately made.  He made our bodies to be WHOLE and when we are putting added garbage into our bodies we are slowly deteriorating different "members" of our body that are created so we can be WHOLE.

Now, why exercise?

Timothy 4:8 informs us, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”  Yes, physical training is important-it hold value.  I think we get mixed up because there are some who focus ONLY on the physical aspect and neglect the spiritual.  But when they are balanced, they are beneficial.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27" Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!  All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified."–Even though Paul doesn't say that physical exercise is the most important here, he chooses the analogy of an athlete because he knows the importance of the dedication, the outcome of physical exercise that our physical body needs.  If we are physically exercising with a purpose, a divine purpose, we will be blessed in our body as a WHOLE.

Our goal in exercise should not be to improve the quality of our bodies so that other people will only admire us. Rather, the goal of exercising should be to improve our physical health so we will have more physical energy that we can devote to spiritual goals.  We need to be disciplined in all areas to be whole in Him.
It just makes sense.  Put in your body things that were intended to be there that will give you energy, build your immune system, strengthen each "member" of the body that is needed to keep Gods Temple strong!  When you have a strong body on the inside and out you feel good about yourself!  It affects everything you do in your daily life.  This improves your emotional state, physical, mental and so much more!  Just like we need to be living sacrifices for God Spiritiually, we need to be living sacrifices for God Physically.

Lets continue to motivate on another even when we don't want to workout or eat healthy!  Let's conquer our comforts and strive for complete wholeness in how God created us!!!
