As we looked at the jewelry, David, one of the men we ran into began telling us a part of his story. His ancestry is from Guatemala, but he was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he went on to working in the fashion industry. He lived the life of a dream working with Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen, and more. He loved it until one day it clicked after working a red carpet event and people were getting so angry in their $10,000 dress, $8,000 handbags, and $4,000 shoes that their hair was a spec off from perfection. He began to think about this being his life and that the outfit they were going to wear once on the red carpet could feed an entire village. David had to do something.

He then left Los Angeles for Guatemala and has now been living in a village there for about 2.5 years teaching kids with no education that it is possible that they can be engineers, doctors, and that there is a future for them. He is helping to build homes for those who need homes. He has so many ideas and visions to put others above himself and live for something greater than what his friends think he was crazy for leaving. I can't remember his exact words but David's mother told him long ago that if he went to bed at night and felt peace and that he does good, then He is living well. He still respects his friends for what they are doing in the fashion world, but David finds so much peace and joy in what he is doing now and cannot turn back.

As he was speaking, I told him I understand and that was a huge reason of why I am on the World Race today. David and I got to share our hearts with eachother and after leaving I thanked God that if I did not jailbreak from the tour guide and walk down the exact way that I did, I would have never met David. We lived in the same city, did a lot of the same things, experienced the same kind of people, and were now on a volcano across the world sharing our stories.

Times like this is when I know God was guiding my steps. Talking to David really made me think about a few things and know that there are others who feel the same way I do. Seeing David's joy in everything he said really brought out even more joy in me. Even though I am passionate about the fashion/hair industry, I am not sure if I can look at it the same. I am not a very materialistic person. Don't get me wrong, I love nice things and love fashion, and I really think I always will. But I just know that does not fulfill my life.
