This past weekend I went to a small concert in a rough part of Oklahoma City  The place my friend Tom and I went to see the concert is called the conservatory.  It’s a dingy little place that looks like it’s about to fall apart.  Inside, a lot of the people looked as rough as the building.  Some guys were in biker gear with tattoos from head to toe. Not a place you’d expect a bunch of Christians to be.  If you are not familiar with heavy metal or “hardcore,” then you may not know of bands like Sleeping Giant.   Tommy Green is the lead singer of Sleeping giant and is a man on fire for Christ.  The message he brings with every concert really has an impact of people.  This was the type of place that Jesus himself would go.  Not a lot of Christians go to  places like the conservatory. Sleeping Giant and similar bands have made it their mission to bring as many of these outcasts to Jesus as they can.  Witnessing these people around me praise God was heartening.  To be honest, if some people saw these guys walking down the street then they would move to the other side.  That is a sad and hard truth and many Christians are the same way.

Part of being a follow of Jesus is shedding our pre-conveived notions of people and going into places like the conservatory.  Everyone knows how messed up the world and how many lost and confused people there are.  If I can bring light to someones world and help just one person fix their brokenness by starting a relationship with Jesus then I will be ecstatic.

I hope someone read’s this blog post and feels something stir in them.  If any wants to talk about the experience I had that night post a comment and I’ll promptly respond.
