You’ve heard it before, that Christianity is more than religion; it’s a relationship.

My squad is made up of different denominations: Baptist, Catholic, non-denominational, and others.

But here on the Race, we don’t have our Sunday morning services, daily Mass, mid-week services, or weekly Bible studies to attend. We have to make time to meet with God and to welcome Him into our hearts to work in and through us on a daily basis.

It’s taught me, though, that my faith really is more than a religion. It’s more than being involved in my church and attending all the services I possibly can.

It’s about growing deeper in love with Christ. It’s about going to Him when things are tough and trusting that He will give you what you need to hear, whether that be affirmation through Him speaking through others, His Word, verbally, in worship, or other ways.

It’s tough to do, I’ll admit. With things constantly going on around me, it’s super easy to put off my personal time with Him. But I’ve learned that it’s important. Really important.

In this time that some may call Lent, I have been challenged by a fellow squadmate to do three things to get ready for Easter: give up something, add something, and ask God to reveal a part of me that needs to be brought into the light.

I’ve decided to give up social media for the rest of the month, add exercise, and I’m praying about what needs to be brought into the light.

In the same way I want to give you, my supporters, that same challenge. If it bothers you calling it Lent, then call it Preparation. Preparation for something bigger that’s coming. Preparation that includes reflection, realization, and action.

All of these are only meant to prepare your heart, maybe bring you out of your comfort zone, and ultimately bring you closer to Christ. Saying that, don’t pick something that’s really easy to give up (ex: if you don’t drink sodas to begin with, don’t give up sodas).

If Easter (March 27th) is too far of a goal, move your goal to the end of February like I did.

I encourage you to really pray about what God is placing on your heart to add and give up and bring into the light
