Just kidding, not really.

Hello Kid's Creek!

We were supposed to go to the Philippines and it was changed to Malaysia for December, but I wrote this blog with my niece last July so I will still post it because she is wonderful!  So here it is ——

This month I will be in the Philippines!  And I'm going to do something different here.  I'm handing over my blog to my niece, BOO.  No, that is not her real name.  It's her "pen name" that she uses to write.  She's 10 and here's her own personal blog: http://scribblesofboo.blogspot.com/  She recently rose money to help missionaries in the Philippines.  I love how children can be a part of missions around the world!

But first, some fun facts about the Philippines!

  • The Philippines is the “text capital of the world”. About 350 to 400 million text messages are sent every day by 35 million cell phone users in the country, which is more than the total daily text messages sent in the U.S. and Europe together.
  • The “Conus Gloriamaris”, which the rarest and most expensive seashell in the world, is one of the 12,000 species of seashells found in the Philippines.
  • Philippines lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire, so it is highly prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
  • The Philippines is home to the Rice Terraces in Northern Luzon, often called the 8th wonder of the world.  See a pretty picture of it below.
  • I've heard we will be eating lots and lots of rice here.  Perhaps you like to cook.  Try out some of these ideas at the bottom to see if they make your rice delicious and let me know how it turns out.  I love the show Master Chef and I think even Chef Gordon Ramsay from Master Chef Junior might approve of these ideas!  http://www.fox.com/programming/shows/?sh=junior-masterchef

Now over to Boo!

We had a bike-a-thon in our church and the kids rose money for the missionaries in the phillipines trying to teach in the schools. It was $200 to sponser a whole school. Our church gave us awards for how much money we raised.  It was $25 to go to the bike-a-thon.  $50 to go to the swimming extravaganza,  it rained 2 out of three hours! If you raised $100 you could go to Kokomos.  I got 2nd place in Mini Golf.  $200 ment you could go to the Great Lakes Loons baseball game.  If you raised $300 you got to go to Avalanch Bay.  I tried the surf thing I did okay. The best part was raising money for those kids. Most of them were hearing about false gods.  beacaus of those kids who rose money the kids in the Phillipines will hear about the true God.

                                                             Love,

                                                                    BOO!

Be a Master Chef by using up leftover rice.

  • Add an egg to rice and press it into a greased pizza pan (works best with brown) lightly sprinkled with cornmeal. Bake ten minutes. Decorate with sauce and your favourite pizza toppings. Then bake until toppings are done.
  • Add it to any soup you may make from scratch or open from a can.
  • Chop up mushrooms and jalapenos, shred favourite cheese, mix and stuff hallowed out green peppers and bake or put on barbecue until tender.
  • Use it as a breakfast cereal. Warm it up in microwave for 20 seconds, sprinkle with granulated sugar, and add milk. Eat with a spoon like your morning cereal. Try it!
  • Make shepherd's pie but instead of using mashed potatoes to top the ground beef use the leftover rice.
  • Add it to your meatloaf recipe to make two instead of one meatloaf. Freeze extra for following week.
  • In a deep pot add 18 cooked mini meatballs, 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped zucchini, 1 can of tomato soup, 1/2 can water, sprinkle of garlic power, pepper and cardamom. When heated add 2 cups leftover basmati rice. Heat and serve.
  • Stir fry some veggies then add rice.
  • Grease a 6 cup muffin pan. Use an ice-cream scoop and put a dollop of rice into each one muffin cup. Add a precooked meatball, 1 tablespoon of frozen peas of carrots, and another dollop of rice. Press down. Top with a teaspoon of parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of oregano and garlic powder. Bake 20 to 30 minutes until heated through.
  • Use as bed for poached eggs instead of bread. Drizzle with hollandaise or cheese sauce.
