Hello Kid's Creek!

Every month I will be writing a kid's blog about where in the world I am so that you can have a little taste of what missions is like in Asia, Europe and Africa.

My first stop is China!

I picked my route because China was on the list.  I wanted to visit the country because I have a very dear friend from Hong Kong.  Her name is Ping Ping and she lives here in Michigan now.  Her real name is Liping Liufu.  She chose Ping Ping to be her American name.

I loved getting to know her and I learned that she tried cheese for the first time in her life in Michigan. And she hated it!  How is that possible?

I went to a Chinese restaurant with her once and we talked about fortune cookies.  She told me something that surprised me so much.  She said they don't have fortune cookies in China!  But all my life I thought that's where they came from.  NOPE!  Can you guess where they became popular?

San Francisco, California in a Japanese restaurant.  My mind is blown!

Watch this fun video of people in China trying their first fortune cookies. cool

She taught me how to say:

Thank youxei xei

Here's how you would say it: shay shay

You're welcomebú kèqì

Now you try it: boo ca chi

I love youwo ài ni

This one is my favorite.  Give it a try: whoa I knee

She taught me how to write my name in Chinese:

We didn't have paper, so I learned on a napkin.  Click the napkin to go to a site that will teach you to write some Chinese!

I might get to go see the Great Wall of China!  I've heard that the Great Wall is the only man-made object visible from space.  I just learned it isn't quite true.  You can't actually see it from the moon.  But here is a cool picture of the Great Wall from a satellite anyways:

Did you know that there are underground churches in China?  The underground churches don't actually exist under the ground.  It means that they meet in quiet places where they won't get caught worshiping God illegally like in homes, hotels and other small and quiet places. There are regular churches too, but these churches are controlled by the government of China.  They are told how they must worship God.  That is why many Christians want to worship Jesus in "underground churches" so that they can praise Jesus the way they want to.  Unfortunately if they are caught, Christians can get into trouble and maybe even arrested.

I believe prayer is very important and God does really cool things in our hearts and lives when we talk to Him.  Will you pray for two things with me?

1.  Pray for Christians in China who want to worship Jesus to be safe in the underground church.

2.  Pray for the freedom to do so!

Thanks, kids!  My next stop is Thailand!

Bell Creek Community Church is the church I attend when I'm in America.  To learn more about Kid's Creek, visit the website here!

Thanks for trying on my backpack and listening to me sing in Chinese with my Uke.  Hope you enjoyed the story about Fortune Cookies.  And thank you, Ping Ping, for coming to teach us Chinese!

Thanks for all the letters this morning!  I just read them<3 I will be safe and I will look into the problems the children are having in China.  I know some things about the questions you have asked.  Maybe I'll find out more when I go to love people in China!
