ITEMS EVERYONE NEEDS TO PACK:

  • Passport
  • Personal Identification
  • Personal Check card or Visa (Double-Check Expiration Date)
  • Health Information
  • Copies of ID, and passport packed in various places.
  •  Passport/Money Holder
  • Proof of Yellow Fever inoculation (if country requires)
  • Bible
  • Journal
  • Pens/ Pencils

 

PERSONAL ITEMS:

  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Prescription glasses (don’t rely only on contacts)
  • Contact solution
  • A roll of toilet paper
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Small pack towel. Sarongs are recommended because they are lightweight, dry quickly, and are incredibly multi-purpose.
  • Pocket multi-tool or knife
  • Headlamp
  • Stationary for Thank you notes (just a few)
  • Alarm clock
  • Medication
  • IF you take supplements at home, bring them IF you will take them. We suggest a good pro-biotic and garlic extract (natural anti-microbial) at the least.
  • Insect repellent
  • Watch

 

Electronics:

Electricity may or may not be available for you. It is your decision whether to bring electronics or not.

  • Outlet converter/voltage converter
  • Jump drive/Flash drive/External Hard drive

 

Medical Supplies

  • Personal first aid kit (Neosporin, After Bite, Insect repellent, Band Aids, Imodium AD, pain killers-Advil/Tylenol, Pepto-Bismol, antiseptic wipes, Dramamine, Benadryl).
  • Latex Gloves
  • Medical grade face masks
  • Any prescription medication you take
  • Optional: Sawyer Products makes a small compact water filtration system that could be used for a team or given to a village. This may or may not be useful.

 

Miscellaneous:

  • Camera
  • Small calculator
  • Pictures of your family
  • Travel locks – combination lock is better than keyed lock (WR TIP: Bring Key Rings to lock the zippers on your purse, daypack, or backpack. It takes too long for thieves to undue and will deter them from picking you as their target.)
  • Baby wipes/Face wipes
  • Water bottle (one that doesn’t leak!) plus a splash guard and carabineer to clip it. Sawyer Products makes a water bottle with a filter inside.
  • Earplugs (roosters crow very early and your roommate may snore)
  • Clothes line
  • Eating utensils including silverware, mug, plate, and bowl
