Creative Love.

The phrase God has spoken over me for this year.

What does it look like to walk in that? To love others creatively….in a way that’s completely out of the norm?

When we first arrived to Indonesia, we went camping for two days to have some rest, rejuvenation, and orientation time before splitting teams up.

I went for a hike by myself early one morning and in the cool, quietness of the day, I asked the Lord if He would give me some ideas of what creative love looked like. I wanted Him to show me some ways that I could love my team, my squad mates and the people around me each month in a creative way.

Anticipating Him to give me ideas, examples, and specific actions in which I could systematically execute, His answer was instead, the farthest thing from what I was expecting…

Beloved, the best way for you to be a creative expression of love is to BE YOURSELF. You were created out of love! For from me and through me and for me are all things. I created you FROM my own creative love, THROUGH the love of your parents, FOR love…to be loved by me. Express my creative love to others simply by being you. Love out of the fullness of your heart – of who you are. There is no formula. Loving in the way YOU love is the best expression of creative love there is.

Whoa.

Just sitting in that for a minute brings such freedom and even still blows my mind.

Creative Love.

It simply looks like me being me – out of the fullness of Him moving freely in me.

It looks like me encouraging others because I have a gift of encouragement.

It looks like me spending time with others because I come alive when I can have quality time with them.

It looks like me being an excited rookie, desperately trying to say something in sign language while flailing my hands around, yet seeing joy spread on Yani’s face because in my passion I am so ridiculously excited to get my own sign name from an official deaf person.

It looks like me taking paint and brushes to the small store of Nunung and spending a few hours with her, allowing the smiles and laughter to be our translator since we can’t communicate with words. (see Not Too Proud for more on Nunung).

It looks like me giving her the painting and seeing her face light up.

Creative Love.

I’m learning to walk in it.

Are you?
