I'm new to this whole blog thing. I'm not a writer or a blogger so you'll have to bear with me as I approach this new challenge. This will probably be awkward at first but…oh well.

My family still has a landline. Why? I have not a clue. All of us have cell phones and we live in 4 different cities. To get in touch with one another, the home phone is rarely called. There is only one person who consistently calls the home phone. His name is Douglas Williams, or as we call him, Doug. Doug calls our home phone at least once a day. On Sundays, he calls multiple times. Doug is a blessing to my family. He calls and only has good things to say about us. He calls and encourages us and reminds us how blessed we are. Doug builds us up and over and over again tells us how beautiful we are. He is the type of friend that everyone should aspire to be. The friend that is always there and never has a bad thing to say. And for those of you who don't know, Doug is blind. He has been blind since childhood.

If Doug calls, 99% of the time we see who it is on the phone and pass right by it. Or we tell Rachel it's for her (he likes talking to her the most). Why do we pass up phone calls that could build us up and make us feel so good about ourselves. Why do we pass up such encouragement? Why do we pass up talking to and experiencing someone who has done nothing but make us better?
Over the past few years, I have been blessed by friends and experiences that have all led me to The World Race. My summer spent working at SAMBICA and my good friend Will Scogin are two of the biggest influences on my decision to pursue this. Too many times I pass by the call of a Holy God. The call to push outside of my comfort zone and embrace something foreign to me. The call that that comes from a God who only wants to build me up, who wants to accomplish His purpose in me and have me live life and live it abundantly (Jn 10:10). I cannot afford to keep passing up these calls. I cannot afford to miss out on experiencing God and His work in the world. This is my call, and I'm answering.
