Gap squad I has finally made it to Cambodia after 40+ hours of traveling! We have been living in the Overflow guest house, which is an Adventures in Missions base in Siem Reap, Cambodia, for a little less than a week now and just received wifi for the first time.
Compared to my life at home I have been stripped of a lot and been living uncomfortably, but this is nothing compared to what conditions we will face in the next week and 9 months. We are living luxurious right now…we have hot showers, flushing toilets, there may have been a gecko in our room, but we have a bed to sleep on!
Our days have been spent going out into to town and experiencing Cambodian food, $2 thai pants, and tuk tuk rides (Cambodia’s version of Uber). We have had a few days of ministry which included ATL (ask the Lord) and going into the streets, as well as cleaning the hostile we are staying in during this week, but mainly free time.
I began to get super frustrated with how much free time we’ve had and how little ministry we have done so far. I signed up to minister to people, to share God’s word, and learn to depend on the Lord. God has already done so much in me and its only been 6 days.. He began to show me how I can do ministry in ANY situation. I can share His word at the Night Market with the lady selling me Thai pants, I can ask if the man doing my henna needs prayer. God gave me grace for our leadership because they are doing so well helping us adjust to this lifestyle and jet lag which is why this week has been more laid back before we dive into full ministry. I think God really opened my eyes this morning, we were visiting one of the seven wonders of the world and to make a long story short we lost our tuk tuk driver for 2 hours…yes, 2 hours!!! While wondering and searching (surprisingly in a super calm manner) we decided to break out in some killer dance moves which is how we made a friend and we were able to hear a lot about his life story and life struggles…on our “adventure day” we were able to still let God’s love shine through us for this young dad.
Here’s to 9 months of unconditionally loving on people every chance we get!!
