You ask “Who is Huong?”

Huong is a very precious member of the body of Christ. She was our teammate in Cambodia and Vietnam. She became our friend. Her love for Christ transcends culture and language barriers. She is always finding a reason to smile. She encourages me to always see myself as Jesus sees me: free and loved.

Huong became irreplaceable for our month in Vietnam (her homeland). She lovingly and patiently translated. It sometimes became her burden, but she shouldered it with love and let us know when she needed a break. She taught us about Vietnamese culture. We even got to meet members of her family!

Life bubbles out of Huong. Even in the simplest things, God’s love and life showed out of her. For example, on one of our many prayer walks around the city, I was getting tired, so Huong decided to dance in the middle of the sidewalk. Then she asked me to join in the dancing. Such joy overtook that moment. I forgot my tiredness and felt refreshed.

Her testimony is powerful. God invited her to become a part of His fold in the midst of a family and a nation that did not quite understand or approve. She bravely decided that if God asked her to love Him, she would. One of her favorite songs is “Mighty to Save.” And she believes the words she sings, knowing that God is mighty to save. She does not live in fear. Of course, she has times when the decision to follow God feels like the hardest thing to do, but He is ever faithful in those moments. She is God’s happy, brave girl.
