Open my eyes Lord, I want to see your plan for me,
To see the mission with clearer vision,
Press t’ward the mark that waits for me.
Open my ears Lord, all that you tell me I will do.
To know your calling, run without falling,
I’ve set my eyes on you
Chorus:
Give me a heart like your heart beating for the lost;
Give me a love like your love no matter what the cost;
Give me a road to travel, a race that I can run;
Give me a heart like your heart,
To stand until you come, until you come.
Over seven years ago, I heard this song for the first time during a worship service. Ever since that day, these lyrics have come to mind frequently. Throughout college, I remember singing these lyrics as a prayer to my Heavenly Father. I didn’t know how God would respond, and sadly, I didn’t always expect an answer.
As I was driving to work the other day, I began singing these lyrics and that’s when it all clicked! God has indeed been answering this prayer in my life, guiding me one step at a time throughout the past seven years.
This is a process that doesn’t happen overnight and it looks differently for everyone, but God has lead me to a place where I am ready to surrender to Him no matter what the cost. He has given me a heart that beats for the lost. God has been preparing me to come to a place where I am ready to leave my comfortable life here in the states so that I can travel and serve the “least of these” (Matthew 25) in 11 different countries on The World Race through a variety of ministries.
God has given me the road to travel and the race to run. So, I will run mile after mile, over hills, across rivers, through mountains and across the plains. He will run alongside me–encouraging, prompting, warning, directing, guiding and coaching me day after day. I will never be alone, not even for a moment.
Where is your road … your race? Will you train, run and endure the race God has called you to?
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1
