I’ve been in Haiti for two weeks now and it has certainly been a change of pace from the Dominican Republic.

Our ministry contacts here are Lex and Rene, a couple who are dedicated to bringing the love of God to the Haitians. We are living in tents at a compound on the beach in Grand Goâve.

We are actually working at two locations this month.  Mission of Hope International (MOHI) is constructing a new building for a school, library, computer room, clinic/pharmacy, and church meeting area. This building will meet Florida and California building Codes so that it will withstand any future earthquakes and hurricanes – at least a part of all their previous buildings were damaged in the 2010 earthquake. This month our squad has been helping with the construction; cutting and placing rebar, doing masonry work and using brigade lines to manually carry buckets of cement to lay the concrete foundation. Hard work in the 35 degree heat!

The second ministry is the Be Like Brit Orphanage.  The founders of this orphanage were the parents of Britney, a girl who came to Haiti on a college trip in 2010. She was staying in a hotel when it was destroyed in the earthquake killing Britney and a few others from her school. Hours before the disaster she had texted her parents saying that she fell in love with the children in Haiti and wanted to come back and start an orphanage of her own. In memory of Britney, her parents decided to make her dream come true – and so here we are helping pour concrete for the second floor of the orphanage which will eventually house 66 children.

Now that you’ve got a bit of a feel for my life in Haiti, please also know that I need continued financial support for my journey on the World Race. Thus far I have raised $9,430 in donations but my next financial deadline is fast approaching and unless I receive another $1,570 in my support account before April 1st then I will be heading back to Canada.

I want to continue in my journey of pursuing and growing closer to God. I want to continue serving the poor, sick and the meek. I want to continue building relationships all over the world. I want to continue to see how God can and is working in the lives of thousands. I WANT TO STAY on the RACE!

BUT I NEED YOUR HELP. I’m asking you to save your change, to skip your Starbucks treat once or twice a week, wait until next month to buy that new shirt or pair of jeans you were eyeing….tell your friends, coworkers, church members, your friend’s friends and anyone else you think might be interested in supporting me.  Every little bit helps whether it is $20, $50, $100 or more!

JUST THINK –  if 31 people donate $50 within the next month (which is only $10 per week until my deadline) then I will be able to continue on the World Race.

If you have the financial means I’m asking you — take 5 minutes and click on the “Support Me” link on the left hand side of this blog and make a donation to help me stay on the World Race at least until the end of June.  A second option is that you can send a cheque to Adventures In Missions, PO Box 534470, Atlanta, GA, 30353-4470 so long as it is in the mail before March 15th to allow for processing time.  Lastly, for those who live in the Edmonton area, if you can get a personal cheque or cash to my dad before March 15th he will deposit it in my bank account and will be sending a US money order to AIM before my deadline.

If you send a cheque please ensure my full name (Dania Spillett) is on the memo line and please note the total in US dollars so that in can be properly processed by AIM in Georgia, USA.

If you would like to send cash or a personal cheque click on the “Contact Me” tab on the menu to your left and I will provide you with my address or a way to get in touch with my father.

A huge thanks to all who have contributed to my journey thus far and thanks to those who keep me in their prayers – it is greatly appreciated.
