Well I supposed it's time for a new blog even though there hasn't been too many new things happening in regards to my preparation for departure. We did however, find out the details of our launch.
Launch: January 10, 2012 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida
I have been back at work the last few weeks since Training Camp but in the midst of that I also have a few fundraising things going on. The most recent event was my bottle drive.
On Tuesday, November 8th my boyfriend Darren and I collected bottles from about 45 houses in my neighborhood as well as a restaurant and a lounge. The picture below (I dont know how to rotate it for some reason) is what part of my backyard looked like after our night of collections. Saturday, my aunt and I brought the bottles in for the refund but the bottle depot made me wait anxiously until today to find out how much money I raised from the bottle drive.
Drum roll please….
I raised a whopping $400!!
That was a lot more than I was expecting and I am so grateful that God continues to bless me financially with funds for the Race. In addition to some other donations I now have approximately $5,500 in my support account which means I need only $1000 more to meet my deadline (December 15th) which would allow me to launch with my teammates in January.
If you are able to help me out in reaching that goal it would be fabulous but I also have some prayer requests for this week. My next fundraising event in this Friday November 18th and is a party (for which I'm selling tickets) and a silent auction. Please pray that people will be generous in their bidding on auction items and that perhaps I can get the word out there to strangers about what this trip is all about.
Also praise God that I have the opportunity to meet with a reporter from the Edmonton Examiner about the World Race. I pray that God will speak through me about what I'm doing on the trip and that it would draw attention from other Edmontonians, potentially bringing in more support.
Thats all for now friends.
