Hello!!!!

Finally, I have my blog up! I'm very excited. It's so nice to meet you, whoever you are, and I am really thankful you stopped by my blog here.

I am horrible at writing "about me" articles or pieces. So, I decided to steal this little survey I saw floating around my squad's blogs and fill it out, as I feel it's a pretty good getting to know you tool!

Some things not covered I'll write underneath. πŸ™‚

What was your favorite food when you were a child?

bread and butter sandwiches and garlic pasta…my mom made them for me a lot and when I was sick, which was pretty often, they both made me feel better. Also…Dilly Bars (say woohoo if you remember these lol) and my grandpa's homemade milkshakes. And really anything made by my grandma.

What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod?

God of this City by Chris Tomlin, probably. My ipod sounds a lot like Christian radio (95.9 The Fish anyone?) Also, I love Florence and the Machine and a TON of other artists. But for some reason God of this City just always reminds me that God is always in control and that is comforting.

What is one of your favorite quotes?

"A ship in a harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are for." — John A. Shedd

and

"Just when the caterpillar thought its life was over, it became a butterfly." (I don't know the author, if anyone does, let me know!)

What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?

Indoor – Making jewelry, knitting, reading, crochet, anything involving creativity or art.

Outdoors – Hiking, seeing new places, being around animals, and talking to people and hearing their stories.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing?

I don't really have any chores I hate….but I have a really unrealistic fear of ants (what! They're small, they come in numbers, and their too smart…it's scary) so I'd say cleaning out a place filled with ants. I'd probably cry at least once.

What is your favorite form of exercise?

I love to run….and walk. I have a marathon this Sunday and I haven't trained as much as I should so hopefully I complete it lol. And hiking. I like riding bicycles, too.

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?

Time of Day: Right when the sun rises…the promise of a new day.

Day of the Week: Probably Sunday because as of now it's my only day off, and plus I like going to Church and seeing all the great people there.

Month of the Year: December. I don't know why, there's just something amazing about December. I suppose I should also love February since that's when I was born….but secretly I love December more…just don't tell February. πŸ™‚

What’s your least favorite mode of transportation?

Flying. I am terrified of fllying. (Yes, yes, the irony strikes me, as well…I guess I will get over it on the trip lol).

What is your favorite body part?

As far as one I like personally about myself, my eyes, I guess.

But overall the shoulder. (I had shoulder surgery several years ago, and man was it a wakeup call to the functionality of our shoulders…I severely underappreciated it! The arm is basically useless without it….so, based on personal experience, the shoulder.)

What sound do you love?

Campfire crackling with crickets. I mean I'd prefer the crickets be farther away than the fire, but the combination is just sooo relaxing.

Being a pianist, though, I also love the sound of a piano.

Additionally, the harmonica…my grandpa used to play it. πŸ™‚

If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for?

Hmmm…..I don't know. I think a Disney Theme Party would be great, have everyone come as their favorite Disney character and have Disney everything…just for fun.

And yes, I love Disney. I will never grow out of my love of The Little Mermaid. Possibly because I'm a right brain forgetful girl who often gets into mischief but really means well lol.

If you could paint a picture of any scenery you’ve seen before, what would you paint?

Something undersea or something with a celestial theme. I love the ocean and the sky.

If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?

I wouldn't want to stay any age forever. I think every stage of life offers different blessings and different challenges that make you learn and see things a different way. God uses our whole lives to teach and shape us, so I wouldn't want to interrupt the process. I think the circle of life, while at times sad, is really an amazing invention of our Creator.

If you knew the world was ending in 2012, what would you do differently?

Well….I probably wouldn't be writing this blog because I wouldn't be around to leave on the trip lol.

Other than that, I'd probably take an extended vacation from work and sleep for awhile.

That's probably a horrible answer, but it's the truth lol. I'd also want to try to bring others to Christ, though. If the end was known, it would be important to have as many people as possible going to Heaven. πŸ™‚

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

I think I've had some of the best mentors…my mom was always there for me to teach me about keeping my head up…my dad taught me a lot about art and believing in your dreams…my grandma taught me to appreciate what I have…and my grandpa showed me a lot about what a Christian man looks like, as well as my dad, and I think if the world were full of men like them, we'd be in a much better place.

Other than that, Jesus is obviously the best mentor of all….He has already taught us what we need to learn and continues to teach us every day. πŸ™‚

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?

Another team member said this, but I agree, I'd like to see Moses split the Red Sea. Several Biblical events. I would also really like to be at the first showing of Mozart's opera The Magic Flute. (HUGE Mozart fan.)

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I think it would be neat to learn how to speak several languages. I'm a big fan of learning languages. Other than that, I think learning how to make musical instruments would be amazing. Music is a huge part of my life and it would just be great to be able to make some instruments. πŸ™‚

If you had to work on only one project for the next year, what would it be?

Does The World Race count? lol….seems the most applicable. Other than that…gee…anyone who knows me knows that I love projects and it would be REALLY hard to pick one lol.

If you were immortal for a day, what would you do?

Sky dive. And dive off a waterfall. I don't know why. I can't even swim that well…but I guess that's why I'd pick that….because I couldn't drown.

If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to?

I like my name, actually. But I remember for a couple of years as a kid I wanted to be 19 years old and I wanted my name to be Samantha lol. But at 26, Courtney's just fine and 19 was kind of overrated I think lol.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

Moses, Paul, or Mozart. (I told you I was a huge Mozart fan!)

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Buy my parents a house and make sure they were set for the rest of their lives. They've done a lot for me and it would be amazing to be able to give back to them like that. My grandma, too! (We call her Grammy) πŸ™‚

If you were reincarnated as an animal/drink/ice cream flavor, what would it be?

Animal…Monarch Butterfly or Hummingbird. Drink?…oh…probably a Dr. Pepper or a Pepsi, I'm obsessed with both lol. Ice Cream Flavor….Half Baked.

If you could know the answer to any question, besides “What is the meaning of life?”, what would it be?

What was it like to live in Jesus' time and really walk next to Him in the flesh. I just can't imagine it…it must have been amazing. Not that we don't have an amazing Lord now, same Jesus, but I have always thought it would have been wonderful to be in the company of the apostles…or to be the man who left his nets and his life behind and literally followed Jesus around.

I have lots of other questions, but I just would love to know that.

I guess one day we'll find out, huh? πŸ™‚

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

Ariel. (Little Mermaid).

Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?

I don't get mistaken for any, but people used to say I looked like Marie Osmond when I was a kid.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I don't know. I think I'm just interested to see where God takes me in life. But I'm most looking forward to being a mom and a wife.

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?

Coffee. Or reading. Or blogging. πŸ™‚

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Oh boy…I don't know…ask me in like 50 years lol.

What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?

A few Chris Tomlin songs, mixed with some Florence and the Machine, sprinkled with Norah Jones, with a side of KT Tunstall and Tori Amos.

Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad but it turned out to be for the best?

This seems to be a continual thing in my life lol. God continually uses the times in my life that I just can't figure out where I'm going, or I feel like all is lost, to show me His grace and love and to teach me lessons. It's a blessing even though it might be hard at the time.

What was one of the best parties you’ve ever been to?

Hmm. I don't really know. I guess one of the slumber parties I went to as a kid. Those were so much fun haha.

What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry or tear up?

Trouble With The Curve. And I may have had a few tears in The Hunger Games (the book)….just…a few. From courtneyherz.theworldrace.org

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?

Be at the hospital when my grandpa died.

Physically, though….I'm guessing it's going to be the marathon!

What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?

Sticking to my faith and what I know to be right when it was unpopular. And also, going through something that I thought was really horrible, but realizing that God used it to put me in a position to be able to share his grace and love with others.

What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?

I didn't really get in trouble growing up, it was mostly after I was grown lol. My pride has gotten me in trouble more than anything else. I passed notes a lot in class and talked a lot, though, so I did have a couple of notes for that.

When was the last time you had an amazing meal?

Tonight. Literally it was a SmartOnes frozen meal but it was AMAZING. Ricotta and spinach pasta…so good.

What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received?

Best gift I've ever received….probably the Bible I received when I was baptized.

And once I had a birthday when my mom got me a bag of purple themed things…a candle, a bathrobe, slippers…it was so cool!

OH! My grandma handmade me a quilt years ago for Christmas and now I keep telling her all the marks on it are from use, not because I don't care about it, I just can't keep it on a quilt rack. It's so cozy! πŸ™‚

What do you miss most about being a kid?

Innocence. The blissful innocence of not knowing all the world contains in its darkest parts. Being able to be carefree.

What is your first memory of being really excited?

My first memory??? Umm….I know that I always got REALLY excited when I was growing up and I got to go across the mountains from Western Washington State to Eastern Washington to see my grandparents and spend a week or so. And Christmas….I mean really isn't that everyone's first memory of excitement. That and (something I don't get to experience in CA much) "It's SNOWING!" πŸ™‚

What was the first thing you bought with your own money?

Oh geez…..a Reba McEntire CD I think? LOL. I also remember once using my allowance to buy a magnet that was a poem about parents for my parents. They still have it on the fridge I think!

When was the last time you were nervous?

When I applied for The World Race. lol.

What is something you learned in the last week?

That the correct spelling is prerogative not perogative. lol. Actually that was today I learned that. Who knew! (Webster, I guess.)

What story does your family always tell about you?

How when I was a little kid I'd go up to anyone and everyone and say "I like your shoes!" or "I like your nail polish!" I was always really talkative and outgoing. Clearly I'm really short on words now….

At what age did you become an adult?

Well…my family and closest friends would probably tell you I haven't grown up yet lol…but I'd say 22….I don't know why, I just feel like that's when I started learning a lot about life and embracing the challenge of having to deal with all the things I was a bit naive to before.

In addition…

I LOVE PINK!

I am OBSESSED with coffee!

Irish Cream is just….amazing…and I got SUPER excited the other day when I realized IN IRELAND I can probably have the real thing in my coffee….of course…to them maybe it just tastes like regular cream….hmm…

I daydream and wander off in my sentences often.

I love trains.

I absolutely love frogs…don't ask.

I have an odd association with Monarch butterflies…I don't know why but they've always been something I just really loved.

I play the piano and have been playing for 11 years.

I trained in opera awhile back and still love to sing classical music….one of the things I love about singing the old hymns.

I grew up in Puyallup, WA.

I hate hearing about teeth or dental work. (It makes sense I promise lol)

I could probably eat green grapes and strawberries forever.

I love Minstrone soup and pasta.

I have the best family in the world.

I'm adopted and I love it – God bless EVERY adoptive parent in the world who loves and brings up their children with the love they wouldn't have had otherwise. You rule.

Somewhere Out There is one of my favorite songs – my mom used to tell me it made her think of adoption so I've always kind of considered it "our song". πŸ™‚

I'm sure there's more. But I'm sure you'll figure it out as you read more about me.

If you've read this far, thank you! And I'm sorry! lol.

For now, I'm headed off! I'll be back for the "What Lead Me To Mission Work" blog next.

Hey the first 3 are obligatory topics, past that don't expect any planning or sense of organization lol.

Jk. From courtneyherz.theworldrace.org

God bless and I hope you all have a great day!
