Trujillo is one of the most dangerous cities in Peru — every street is run by a gang and all public transportation pays off a gang in order to be able to use certain areas on their route. Kids get recruited into gangs at a young age, between the ages of 12-15. Older gang members train kids to kill, so the value of human life is diminished very quickly at a young age. The kids in Trujillo have a lot fighting against them, however they also have people very determined to fight for them.

Joca, a twenty-five year old missionary at Inca Link, has created a sand boarding ministry for the kids in this city. Sandboarding is essentially snowboarding, but on sand mountains!  Joca's mission is to reach kids before they get caught up in gang life and to tell them about this guy named Jesus. Joca is faithful to read the Word with them and pray for them every day that they go sand boarding.

Sandboarding is a riot! What a crazy awesome ministry!

My favorite night in Peru was the night we had a bon fire for the kids in his ministry. The concept of a s'more hadn't yet made it to Trujillo, Peru  — so the kids got the chance to taste an abundance of sugary goodness all smushed between two crackers that night. I got the opportunity to share with the kids everything God has done in my life– and tell them about a Father that has never forgotten any of His children. In the midst of poverty, He provides; In the midst of chaos, He is our place of peace. He doesn't have ordinary plans for them, they were designed for greatness!

Joca is a faithful servant, putting Jesus at the center of everything he does. I was so excited about this ministry because he was so passionate about loving these kids well.

There are many ways to add to the Kingdom — if this is something you might be interested in helping out with through purchasing/donating snowboards/sandboards–then go for it! They'll go to good use! Email: [email protected]
And naturally, Like them on Facebook at Inca Thakhi 😉
