She clung to me tightly and didn’t want to let go.

She almost had tears in her eyes… And she barely even knew me.

Our relationship consisted solely on my teammates and I coming to her tea stand to treat ourselves to delicious milk tea during our lunch break of construction work.

She didn’t speak English, aside from two words, and we didn’t speak Laos, aside from two words. She was patient with us as we communicated via pointing and hand signals, customizing our drinks to be less sweet than the original recipe. But every day she met us with a smile and received a smile in return. Because Laos is a closed country, we could not openly pray for her or speak to her about Jesus. But His light and presence can and will still shine through language and governmental barriers. Our heartfelt goodbye showed me that seeds were planted, love was given, simply by us purchasing tea. We prayed silently over her stand and for her to have Jesus revealed. I walked away fighting back tears, tears of farewell and tears of awe by the hand of my Heavenly Father working in the smallest of details.
