I’m on my way up a mountain, guided by the star blanketed dark sky in search of immeasurable beauty. On a quest to see the sun rise. In order to partake in this beauty, it takes sacrifice, intentionality, and even being set apart.

I had to wake up at 3:45 am, when most of the world is content slumbering. I had to sacrifice my sleep, and my time, choosing intentionally to go to bed earlier instead of being captivated by empty entertainment. I chose to do this because I ascribed more worth to the sun rise than other things.

I also had to separate myself, leaving behind 13 out of our 18. This isn’t a pretentious thing, but merely choosing to press into something greater and not be afraid to leave behind the rest of the crowd. To not be swayed by the majority and masses.

Bumping up the curvy mountain road in a small van, looking out over the twinkling city lights that echo the twinkling stars, I am reminded of the call of God to ascend the mountain to behold His glory. It requires sacrifice, intentionality, and holiness.

The call to the mountain of God requires sacrifice. It means getting up early to pray. Waking up early means prioritizing your time. Responding to the call of God encompasses and affects every area of your life. It’s living a life surrendered.

The call to the mountain of God requires intentionality. I had to CHOOSE to respond to the invitation to see the mountain. Moses chose to respond to God to visit with Him face to face. All of Israel was invited, but only Moses chose to God.

The call to the mountain of God requires holiness. Holiness in its most simple form means to be set apart. I separated myself from the rest of the crowd instead of following the majority.

What I beheld was worth it all.

I will ascend the mountain, climb through the thunder and smoke, to behold the face of my God…
