I love the Word of God.
It truly is a two-edged sword to cut between bone and marrow, spirit and flesh.
It’s a plow to come in and break up the hard places of the soil of your heart and expose any hidden rocks. This needs to be done, because without it, the seeds of God’s promises, and the fruit of the Spirit, cannot grow. Seeds need good soil, as Jesus gave a famous parable about. It takes humility to admit that you do need a plow to come in and soften up, but I want to grow! I don’t want my ears always tickled and to believe a lie that everything is always find with me. I want to be sanctified, to become more like Jesus. I want to be refined so that I too like God reflect the pure reflection of my Creator.
The Word is a mirror that shows us our true appearance. Why do we use mirrors? To prepare ourselves to go out into the World. To make sure our appearance is acceptable and not revolting. It’s a way to comb our hair, for the ladies to add on make-up, to see the dirt on our faces so we can wash it away. The Bible says it’s the same with the word. And foolish is a man who looks at his appearance and then walks away, forgetting what he looks like! The Word is a beautiful tool of grooming ourselves spiritually, for even though our spirit has been renewed, our soul is still being sanctified. And it gets dirty going out in the World. But we are called to be ambassadors of Christ. Ambassadors represent the country they are coming from. Ambassadors want to have a good representation and first impression. If we go out into the world, with the dirt of pride all over our face, our hair in a mess with jealousy, and some boogers of lust hanging out of our nose, we aren’t that presentable or an accurate depiction of our Lord and Savior.
So let the Word refine you. Sometimes it hurts. But God disciplines those He loves!
My prayer is for the Lord to refine me, to grow me, to shape and mold me.
