Hello!
Just wanted everyone to know my team and Team Crux made it safely to Calcutta, India! We arrived super early Saturday morning after an entire night of flying! (We began our journey Friday morning leaving our hostel in Nairobi, Kenya….flew out of Kenya around 3ish, got into Qatar around midnightish, boarded another flight to Delhi, arrived in Delhi around 330 am, went through immigration, changed terminals and made the flight to Calcutta literally by the skin of our teeth!)
Please continue to keep us in your prayers. We do not actually have a set contact here this month, which means we are ATLin it! (Ask The Lord). Ministry looks different for us this month in that there are tons of NGO’s here in Calcutta and several of us are feeling led in different directions. For me personally, I am feeling drawn to one of Mother Teresa’s homes for handicapped children. I found out in orientation the other day that working with that home involves doing range of motion type stuff with the kids to help there mobility, changing them, feeding them, doing laundry, helping with dishes, whatever needs to be done, and just spending time with the children loving on them.
Other things to be in prayer over:
1. Physical health- Team Remnant is right now doing pretty well, but team Crux has been fighting some illness (upset stomachs and the like).
2. The poverty here is worse and more extreme than any country yet, so it is hard. Everytime we go out of our hostel, we are bombarded with beggars asking for food or money. We pass homeless people laying on the streets..sometimes whole families including infants and young children.
3. Hindu and Muslim religions are prevalent here. Less than 1% of the population is Christian, so sharing the gospel is hard, and at times risky. (It was mostly Hindu extremists that were murdering Christians several months ago in other parts of India) so we have to take extreme caution and ask the Lord for discernment before speaking anything.
4. We have picked up on a lot of things in the spiritual realm here…especially spirits of anger, lust, and apathy. We are trying to walk in the opposite spirits-praise, joy, and compassion.
I will be posting more soon on life in India. Stay tuned!
