I recently read a book titled “The Dream Giver” by Bruce Wilkinson. I absolutely love this book right now because I feel it is the best, most accurate picture of what my life will be like in the coming year. For those that have not read this book (which I highly recommend), the story is about a boy named Ordinary who lives in a town called “Familiar”. One day Ordinary decides to leave Familiar in pursuit of his Big Dream given to him by “The Dream Giver”. This story takes us (the reader) on Ordinary’s journey to find his big dream and the obstacles he encounters on the way.
At
work, I always get asked the question, “Done anything exciting lately,
or, how has your day been?” One day, when asked this question, I made
the comment that it was the same old same old…day in and day out.
The response I got was, “It’s nice to have a routine without any
surprises” And I realized as that comment was made that I have grown
to hate the “same old same old”! I’m ready to leave “Familiar!” As I prepare for The World Race, I realize that the story of “Ordinary” is in fact the story of MY life! I am leaving Familiar and heading into unknown lands full of unknowns of all sorts. Scary? ABSOLUTELY! But as scary as it may seem, I have the comfort in knowing that no matter where I go, Jesus will be right there with me.
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens you’re there,
If I make my bed in the depths you are there,
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
If I settle on the far side of the sea,
Even there your hand will guide me,
Your right hand will hold me fast.”
~Psalm 139: 7-10
